Encapsulated Ferrous Fumarate

Encapsulated Ferrous Fumarate (EFF) — Our Contribution to an Anemia-Free India

Anemia continues to be one of India’s most widespread nutritional deficiencies, affecting health, learning, and productivity nationwide.
According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5), 67% of children (6–59 months) and 57% of women of reproductive age are anemic — primarily due to insufficient iron intake.

To address this, the Government of India and public health agencies have promoted the use of Double Fortified Salt (DFS) — iodized salt additionally fortified with iron. Salt is consumed daily by nearly every household, making it an ideal medium to deliver essential micronutrients safely and affordably.

Our company plays a vital role in this initiative by manufacturing Encapsulated Ferrous Fumarate (EFF) — a scientifically developed form of iron that is:

  • Encapsulated to prevent interaction with iodine, preserving both nutrients.
  • Stable under high humidity and storage conditions.
  • Neutral in taste and color, ensuring consumer acceptance.

EFF is blended into iodized salt to create Double Fortified Salt, which delivers both iodine and iron in a single, commonly used product. This innovation supports major government nutrition programs such as Anemia Mukt Bharat, POSHAN Abhiyaan, and various state-level food fortification drives.

By improving the nutritional quality of a staple food, we aim to reduce iron-deficiency anemia, especially among children, women, and rural populations, contributing to a healthier and more productive India.
